Life in utero is a roundtheclock symphony of sounds. Your baby is used to the sound of your heart beating, your tummy rumbling, the pulsing of blood vessels. Many newborns are soothed by "white noise" that mimics the sounds of the womb.
This month your baby's inner ear begins functioning. She can hear your voice. She can hear other people, too, if their voices are loud enough. She reacts to sudden noises by blinking her eyes.
Now is the time when many moms start singing and playing music for their babies. Are you nurturing a little Mozart? No one can say for sure whether classical music is good for your baby. But it can't hurt to try.
