Still as tiny as a tadpole, the child inside you is starting to look more and more like a baby. This month his embryonic "tail" will disappear. His eyes, ears and limbs will take shape. At eight weeks, the first taste buds will appear on his tongue.
Your baby is growing at a remarkable rate, but nothing can compare to the amazing speed of neurogenesis. Neurogenesis is when almost all of the 100 billion nerve cells in the human brain are created within the first four prenatal months. Right now your baby is producing these neurons at a rate of more than 250,000 per minute that will lay a foundation for the rest of his life.
By the end of the month, two inches long from head to toe, your baby will begin making his first movements. You won't feel them at this early stage. But in a few weeks his powerful kicks will make you feel as if you've already earned the title "Soccer Mom."
